About Riddlique
Our Story – Why We Explore Japan’s Everyday Riddles
Many people around the world dream of visiting Japan —
and nothing makes us happier than hearing those words.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who cherishes Japan’s streets, food, and way of life.
We live our daily lives in Kyoto, Japan — a city where tradition quietly breathes through everyday moments.
It brings us joy to see so many travelers from around the world visiting this beautiful place.
Yet as the number of visitors grows, we’ve begun to think deeply about how locals and travelers can share this space in harmony.
Riddlique was born from that question — as one small way to explore balance and understanding.
Behind Japan’s beauty lie unspoken rules — quiet manners and invisible customs —
that sometimes puzzle visitors.
But each of these “riddles” comes from the same spirit:
a deep sense of empathy and respect for others.
Kyoto, perhaps more than anywhere else in Japan, reveals how culture lives in the ordinary —
in gestures, routines, and quiet awareness.
Through this journal, we explore the question “Why do Japanese people…?” —
a curiosity that naturally arises from the differences in habits, values, and ways of thinking.
By sharing the thoughts and philosophies behind Japanese life and Zen wisdom,
we hope to help you understand not only Japan,
but also the quiet empathy that shapes its people —
and to make your time here even more meaningful.
